Classification is the systematic grouping and naming of organisms based on shared structural similarities, functional similarities, or evolutionary history. Taxonomy is the science of classifying organisms. Aristotle developed the first known system of classifying organisms by their means of transport such as air, land, and water. Carolus Linnaeus is considered the father of modern taxonomy with the discovery of binomial nomenclature. Binomial nomenclature was the two-word name Genus and species.
